Dance Story of Barong and Kris Dance

One of the most renowned narratives is that of Calonarang, a widow from Jirah, who seeks revenge when unable to find a suitable spouse for her daughter, Ratna Manggali. Resorting to dark magic, she brings chaos to the kingdom of Daha. Despite King Erlangga’s efforts, her powers are too strong. With Rangda’s help, she summons evil forces, leading to a devastating plague. Mpu Bharadah’s disciple, Bahula, thwarts her by retrieving her magic weapon. In a final showdown, Barong aids Bharadah in defeating Calonarang. Legend has it that Rangda, mother of King Erlangga, summoned evil spirits after being cursed for practicing black magic. Only with Barong’s intervention did Erlangga emerge victorious, restoring peace to the land.
